My plan moving forward

Dear friends,

I do hope this new year is treating you well and that you and your family are healthy and having moments of happiness.

First, thank you for all your support over the last few months. I will be forever grateful and I will remain touched deeply by your kindness.  As you know I stepped back from the race for Lt. Governor of Texas at the beginning of December because I had committed to not standing in the way of diversity in this race.  I have not stepped away of fighting for our democracy and equality and justice for every person in America.  

Second, my campaign was left with some excess funds and I am going to use these funds to support candidates and organizations which have integrity, believe in our constitutional democracy, and have a desire to serve all citizens in a compassionate and empathetic way.  To that end, I have already made contributions to Texas Habitat for Humanity, the Equal Justice Initiative, Barnabas Connection (a local charitable organization here serving those in need), Hays County Democratic Party, and the Wimberley Valley Library Foundation.  I will be making more contributions in the weeks and months ahead here in Texas and around the country, though I have made a decision not to use campaign funds to get involved in any Democratic primary races.
