Matthew, Thanks for that insightful background on Michigan’s place in US politics. I’ll give some $ to those moms. We clearly need to support their efforts.

I always feel more well informed after hearing you speak, or reading your words. I loved the words of the spunky Red headed State Senator. Her drawing a line between past and future was my personal favorite part of her reply. What a sensible response, and it kicks the legs out from under “it wasn’t us, that owned slaves” or however not taking responsibility for “white privilege” which most of us have benefitted from. I hope she rises Higher!

I, too, grew up in Michigan. Michigan has/had a foundation of universal caring for all people. My dad, an attorney, tried and won a case that helped establish workplace safety standards in all of the US. There are also many other precedent setting legal cases that originated in MI. In addition, Michigan established a very reputable universal K - 12 public school system. That education is still anchored by the great Land Grant Universities of Michigan and Michigan State. Additionally, the state of Michigan was a primary, if not the primary, focal point of union organizing which became a huge part of building the middle class in the US. Thanks Matthew Dowd, I had forgotten how great Michigan with all it's natural beauty can be. I also know that the innovations that the State of Michigan has contributed nationally in terms of inventions (remember automobiles, the assembly line and unions, etc), legal precedents, education, personal choice and to the development of the middle class in the United States. A lot to watch in Michigan in 2022. Oh and let's not forget the grace of President Gerald Ford.
